The market is recovering…

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

According to all the press – it is good news! The UK market is recovering well..

LONDON, Feb 9 (Reuters) – British recruiters filled permanent vacancies at the fastest rate in six months in January, according to a survey released on Wednesday, pointing to growing confidence among employers.

“Permanent staff placements and temporary/contract staff billings both rose at faster rates in January,” the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) said in a statement.

The REC/KPMG permanent placements index rose to a six-month high of 57.4 in January from 54.9 in December. The temporary index rose to a seven-month high of 56.5 from 52.8 the previous month.

Index levels above 50 indicate net hiring among the panel of 400 recruitment companies polled each month.

Britain’s coalition government hopes the private sector will be able to create extra jobs to sustain growth as spending cuts begin to bite this year.

This is superb news for candidates as new roles are being created daily.  Watch this space.

Is the paper CV a thing of the past? CV-Video….

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

According to a recent Recruitment survey which states that, it is common for job seekers who “look good on paper” to be a disappointment in person. Apparently: “More than seven out of 10 (72 percent) senior executives interviewed said it is common for candidates with promising CV’s to not to live up to expectations during the interview process”

From this we believe at McBarron Wood Group that – CV has to go to Video

So the question is: “Could this apparent discrepancy be all but wiped out by viewing qualified candidates on video prior to committing to a time-consuming and potentially expensive in-person interview?” It’s an interesting thought, I am sure you will agree.
A large online retailer is said to use the example of making a point about the potential cost savings of live webcam video interviews, a process which McBarron Wood have been doing since their inception in 2006. In 2008 this online retailer had spent about $1,000 USD each time it flew in a job candidate and put them up in a hotel overnight.

Our opinion is using Skype which is a FREE video link, which does a pretty good job of replacing an in-person meeting and also in a way that a phone call can’t. ‘You see facial expressions and body language, you have a different sense of what a person is saying and how they are trying to get their point across’, Stock Trading says Managing Director & CEO of McBarron Wood Group Derek Ludlow. Instead of calling out your shortlist to meet with you face-to-face, we as a company conduct as many screening interviews via Skype as possible and get candidates to record themselves at home with our advice and guidelines.”

So in essence the Video CV can only add to a candidate profile. It brings your CV to life – it’s a 3D version of the old one dimensional CV, which is paper based.

Using our FREE technology to all candidates together we can create a better
candidate experience and raise the likelihood of a better hire, saving the candidate time and the company time and money.

From our perspective we are able to give our client’s a much deeper perspective on a candidate, in less time, than has ever been possible before.

Upload your Video CV NOW – let us help you achieve the job of your dreams.

Start of the last quarter of 2010

Friday, October 8th, 2010

It has been a busy week for McBarron Wood and a rather exciting one to say the very least. We have signed 2 preferred supplier agreements with rather large and well known companies across the Globe. Interestingly, our clients said the reason why they chose us over the larger recruitment names, was for our very personal approach to their business units – that we take the time to speak with them and get to know their needs and cultures in every business unit.

On top of that, I am pleased to announce the official launch of our newest brand to McBarron Wood – www.mwtecs.com – Specialist IT Recruitment and coming soon Get Placed. The week seems to have flown by and their is still lots to do in McBarron Wood.

Renewed confidence in the market? Or is that we stay very optimistic? I believe we are optimistic and genuinely supply our clients with the best talent in the market – we work hard at it and it works.

London Calling… Keeping in touch…

Friday, September 24th, 2010

As Managing Director of McBarron Wood, it is always so nice to receive a call from a client who you have been trying to break into for ages, who calls you to arrange a meeting because they are tired of their current supplier not coming up with the talent they are looking for.

It started months ago, it actually feels like years, but months ago speaking with clients I have known in London for ages. A FTSE 100 company who I have always wanted to recruit for, but they have a PSL (Preferred Supplier List) and an in-house Talent Acquisition Team. However, on Finance & Accountancy they have not been supplied the talent they need or deserve as an employer of choice.

Tuesday morning I was elated to speak with my client and be invited to meet with them on Wednesday morning to discuss how McBarron Wood as a London Recruitment Agency who specialises in Finance & Accountancy can really assist them. Wednesday morning came and the meeting went swimmingly – we secured their work for the London office and potentially more offices in the future.

It just shows that patience truly is a virtue and that the Recruitment Agency business is a Contact Business – you have to keep in touch…

We are now recruiting ACCA, CIMA, ACA qualified and part qualified candidates for them.  See our job board for more information.

End of another Month..

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

As the end of July is now firmly behind us, I had great pleasure acknowledging that this year has genuinely seen a big upturn in confidence back in the market.  I really don’t think this is just a blip as the confidence has really been consistant. We have roles from Kuwait and Switzerland, and just today another client of mine from the US called me to ask to help out on an international search.

It is just very nice to see confidence being restored and the market returning to some kind of normality.

The market is still most certainly is calling for the VERY BEST of the BEST candidates and I can only urge candidates that are actively seeking new opportunities to ensure that they write a clear and concise CV – documenting their skills versus the job description / advertisement.

Onwards into August.

Friday Afternoon, the end of another week..

Friday, May 14th, 2010

It’s been a busy week – the launch of our new website which I am very proud of happened on Monday, without its little hiccups, shall we say.  Nothing to do with our web developers, all again to do with the illustrious BT.  All sorted, thanks to our IT team.

It’s been a proud week for me, having worked long and hard with the Midnite Hour team developing our new site. I remember waking up on Tuesday morning 5am, as usual, thinking “It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, we have a new website, and I am feeling good”.  So much so that I found myself sharing my thoughts with Lance our IT guru in the United States – which he chuckled at.  Not sure if I tried to share that with someone in the UK at that time, that they would have shared my enthusiasm for the day.  Hey ho.

Wednesday was very busy with series of meetings which went superbly well.  I am very passionate about business in general, but Wednesday I felt I had a whole new lease of life.  The site was working brilliantly and we were very busy in the office.

Thursday seems to have just flashed by.  My 2.5 year daughter reminded me about what life is all about, when she said “Daddy you have to go to work to do jobs”.  She isn’t or wasn’t wrong – it did make me smile and made me work even harder.

Friday has arrived – first full week of our site being live. Online Share Broking A client meeting which was brilliant to put a face to a name of someone who I have been speaking with for ages it feels like now, and a superbly informative and polished client – who I really enjoyed meeting with.  Back to my desk and more of working on the business, whilst still actively business developing and working senior roles which I have on exclusively with some of my clients.  The weekend is nigh – the team have worked hard – great to have a thoroughly experienced and engaging team.
